Remembering Ippei Kuri: Co-Founder and Former CEO of Tatsunoko Production Passes Away

Here comes the sad news that on July 1, 2023 he left us Ippei Kurico-founder and former CEO of Tatsunoko Productiona Japanese production house that has given life to animated works since the 1960s such as Superauto Mach 5, Kayashan il ragazzo androide, Hurricane Polymar, Gatchaman and many other titles that generations of viewers have grown up with.

Born in 1940, in his youth Ippei Kuri was immediately passionate about comics starring superheroes, with a certain eye for Superman. When he came of age he launched his career as a mangaka, with a trait strongly influenced by the works he was so fond of as a child. For some time the author worked as an assistant to one of his brothers and later managed to publish the manga Judo Boy thanks to Shueisha.

Together with his two older brothers in 1962 he founded the studio Tatsunoko Production. Here he worked as a producer or character designer on most of the animated adaptations produced by the studio, including the one dedicated to Judo Boy. In Italy Ippei Kuri has recently arrived with Kenshiro Tsubanari and the Demon Slayer Sword thanks to the publisher Nippon Shock.

Toyoharu Yoshida (pseudonym used by Ippei Kuri), former president and CEO of our company and second brother of our founder Tatsuo Yoshida, passed away on July 1 at the age of 83. We would like to express our gratitude for the immense kindness and friendship shown by the deceased during his lifetime and wish to inform you of his death. The funeral took place on July 10, with only the closest relatives present“.
