Rising Judoka from Xalapa Sets Sights on Junior Pan American and World Cup

The judoka from Xalapa Jeremy Yucristy Olivares Ramírez, a 19-year-old student of Nutrition at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, lives one of his best stages as an athlete, as confirmed by the triple gold he achieved at the National University of Hermosillo, Sonora; It was individual, by teams and free category.

In addition, he won the qualifier to represent Mexico in the Junior World Cup in Portugal, as well as in the Junior Pan American Championship in Canada.

He is currently waiting for his call to the Nuevo León state team to close his preparation for the Conade National Games, where he will contribute his experience.

“Very happy with the work that has been done, for that reason I thank my coaches, because they have seen for me at all times so that I give the extra and achieve this type of results”, commented the man from Xalapa.

He highlighted what he has won lately, however, he says that he could not participate in the University World Cup in Chile due to the problems that exist with Conade, because he did not have the support, he said he felt a little sad, but he knows that he has to overcome it, because soon he will have important competitions at the international level.

The athlete who is in the -90 kg national category and -100 kg at the university level, will be two years old in Nuevo León and since then has won eight medals between national qualifiers and competitions, seven of which are gold.

Regarding his non-participation in Chile, he spoke that he won the classification but did not attend due to lack of support and non-sports problems and he remarked that he did not lower his head, because he will have important competitions that are the Pan American in Canada where, “God willing and give me the support and with that prepare myself very well and achieve the gold medal, I also feel quite capable of doing it,” he said.

He accepted that what he had achieved for Nuevo León he would have liked to win it for Veracruz, as he points out that he is proudly from Xalapa, however, he points out that he sought the best for him and the University of Nuevo León awarded him a 100% scholarship, where he has facilities, an apartment, food, and everything he needs, something very important for his development as a national athlete.

“Of course I would like to return, I have never completely left, I have always been here living with the people, and with my coaches there have not really been any problems, but I did leave due to the lack of support and other things that now benefit me in Nuevo León.”

How many medals have you achieved?

In 9 years in judo he has achieved more than 150 medals in local, state, national and international tournaments, to mention the Pan American Cups where he won the bronze medal, he has also been summoned to three world championships; he went to Italy.

He hopes that more athletes will emerge in Veracruz, because he knows that there is a high level of competition, so he tells them that “don’t let yourself be influenced by bad experiences or defeats, which may affect your process, because it always happens that way, but if you have discipline and look for what you want, you will end up achieving your goal, as long as you don’t give up. Carry everything that is due, discipline, because that leads you to success.”

Olivares Ramírez took a two-week break before returning to his training and visited the capital of Veracruz to meet his parents, Roberto Olivares and Silvia Ramírez, of whom he says: “Thanks to my parents who have always supported me in what I have done, I also thank my coaches and the people who have guided me, thanks to this I have been able to travel throughout almost the entire Mexican Republic, in addition to visiting the Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador, Italy, among others.”

The athlete’s mind is focused on winning the Junior Pan American and getting a medal in the Junior World Cup, competitions that are part of the process for the next Olympic Games, where the athlete hopes to reach one day.
