San Salvador, Jul 5 (EFE).- Roban Handal, from San Vicente, won the 800-meter gold medal on Wednesday at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and Santo Domingo after the disqualification of Venezuelan José Maitía, who had originally stayed in first place.
The winner stopped the clock at 1:45.93, ahead of Ryan Sánchez, who took the silver with 1:46.86, while the bronze was awarded to the Dominican Ferdy Agramonte, with 1:47.46.
In the first instance, the Venezuelan Maitía had closed the race in the lead, but when the results were made official, he was disqualified.
The Mexican Tonatiú López, defending champion, was the disappointment of the race and finished in sixth position.
