New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu broke the WBNA and NBA record for most points recorded in the three-point shot event at WNBA All-Star Competition today in Las Vegas.
Ionescu only missed two shots and scored 37 of a possible 40 to eclipse the mark of 31 recorded by Stephen Curry (2021) and Tyrese Haliburton (2023). The previous record for the women’s professional league was 30 points, achieved by Allie Quigley in 2022.
Also in the final of this competition, Sami Whitcomb of the Seattle Storm finished second with 22 points. Arike Ogunbowale of the Dallas Wings scored 11 points in the final round.
At one point, Ionescu had 20 consecutive throws, which also set a WNBA and NBA record in competitive three-point shooting history.
“I knew they were all going to come in,” she said after her performance. There was a lot of adrenaline, especially because it was the final. I had just lost the skill test, I couldn’t lose a second time. »
“I put a lot of time and practice into my throwing technique. It’s nice to be rewarded,” said Ionescu.
The WBNA All-Star Weekend continues with the presentation of the All-Star Match taking place on Saturday.
