Sonoran Archer Alejandra Valencia Aims for Olympic Qualification at World Archery Championship

The Sonoran archer, Alejandra Valencia, will have the opportunity to get a ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for Mexico, when she sees action at the World Archery Championship in Berlin, Germany.

Valencia Trujillo, medalist in Tokyo 2020, has won three gold medals in the last Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, so he is in line and with good aim.

The woman from Hermosillo will spend a few days in the Sonoran capital, to later travel to Mexico City to begin her preparation, together with the national team, for the world competition on German soil.

“The World Championship is at the end of July (from August 31 to 6), where the first three teams (in women’s recurve bow) qualify directly for the next Olympic Games. That is, the medalists will have a pass to Paris and also to the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games”.

“The expectations of getting the ticket for the Olympic Games in teams are very good, we are going to compete as we have been doing, we want to get that ticket, we know that it is possible, we need to be very focused,” he commented.

In the same way, he explained that after the world event concludes, it will remain on European soil, since the last stage of the Archery World Cup will be held from August 15 to 20, now based in Paris, France.

The Sonoran will participate with options to get a place in the final of said event, which will be held in Hermosillo from September 9 to 10 and in which only the archers who lead the total score will be there.

“In the World Cup final there will be the seven best in the ranking (women’s recurve bow) as well as a place for the venue, which will complete the archers who will compete for the medals here in Hermosillo. Therefore, after the phase in Paris, it will be known who those eight will be, ”she said.

Valencia comes from being the best Mexican archer in Central Americans, in addition to becoming the Sonoran with the most medal in said competition, with seven, for which she is signing up to seek her second Olympic medal, which would be another piece for the history of the sport of the entity.
