We mentioned, in our Friday edition, the good prospects of the Waterloo club. The latter organized, last weekend, a badminton tournament with an international vocation even if the participation of foreign players is not huge: “We have the presence of a Luxembourg player, a French player, a German and an Italian“, says Alexis Degen, the president of the club. The tournament is the only one in Walloon Brabant to open to categories 1 and 2, i.e. players previously classified as Series A. The tournament was open to all categories ranging from classifications 1 to 8 in gentlemen, ladies and mixed: “For the ladies, we have not been able to bring together ranked 1 players. There are no more ladies 1 except for the girls who only take part in major international competitions. We have therefore grouped the ladies of level 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7 and finally 8. For the tournament, we cannot group more than two rankings in the same series“.
With 179 registered, the leaders of Waterloo were pleased with the turnout: “We have the same number of registrants as last season, while in general the trend is rather downward. We had nineteen players from Waterloo registered for the tournament“.
The tournament was organized in such a way as to allow players to play in groups, before semi-finals and finals. Alexis Degen participated in the tournament, in men’s doubles with Laurent Cuccu. They won their pool and advanced to the semi-finals. The Jodoignois Indy Thys, associated with Louis Lejeune wins the men’s doubles of the 3/4 series. Stéphanoise Marie Vanderhulst and Rixensartoise Eline Massonet won the women’s doubles in series 6/7.
