The Departure of Kellen Moore and His High Praise for Former Quarterback Dak Prescott

In the midst of the moves that were made during the offseason, one of the ones that drew the most attention was the departure of Kellen Moore. The former offensive coordinator of the Cowboys went to the Chargers since the lone star team was looking for another vision of the game, or at least complement it. In fact, it is already known that it will be head coach Mike McCarthy who will make the calls in the offensive game. And this can clearly represent an abysmal change in the production of the group led by Dak Prescott.

Faced with this situation, Moore, who is now in Los Angeles, was talking about the Dallas franchise quarterback. As expected, his statements were quite positive. Since as many know, Moore was not only Dak’s locker room partner during his stage as a player, but he was also his coach for four seasons.

“The best person. I think the best leader I’ve ever been with, easily,” Moore said. “And in all honesty, as a player, a coach or whatever. I think his ability to connect with a team in all aspects is rare and I haven’t seen it any other way. His work ethic, his way of leading, I think is incredible. We’ve all been through that Dallas journey and he has a phenomenal way of dealing with much more than your average starting quarterback in the NFL. And he does it wonderfully. He certainly he’s a guy you’re always going to root for.”

Without a doubt and despite all the criticism he may receive, Dak has not stopped being one of the most important quarterbacks in the NFL today. It’s true that he still hasn’t led the Cowboys to the NFC championship game. But that doesn’t take away from the detail that he continues to be top in the league. In fact, for a quarterback selected in the fourth round of the 2016 Draft, he remains the best of that entire cycle.

In addition, remember how Dak became the Cowboys’ starting QB in his rookie year. Both Tony Romo and Kellen Moore were injured and Prescott had to step up. The rest is history, with a great season in which the Cowboys finished with a 13-3 record.

For Kellen, a lot had to do with fate and situations that occur in the moment. After all, he would be the one to get hurt first in training camp. And then Romo would come in 2016 in the preseason game against Seattle. Already Prescott would have his debut the week before against the Rams. Him completing 10 of 12 attempts for 139 yards and two scores. And despite the negative result by 28 to 24, he left great impressions. Although yes, the quarterback corps was somewhat shorthanded at the time.

“That year, I was on injured reserve. Scott and Jason were amazing with me. They allowed me to stay with the group. I was in the quarterbacks room trying to be a resource or help in any way possible,” Moore continued. “Tony was rehabbing, Dak was the starter now, Mark Sánchez signed him on a Tuesday, there was a lot of movement.”

What is certain is that it is good to know the opinion that Moore has about Prescott. That despite being in another franchise, he still remembers him as the leader that he is. However, now you have to wait for what happens from the end of July in Oxnard. It remains to be seen what Prescott and the offensive group can offer. And of course, all the changes that have come with the group. It will be interesting to see how the offense adapts to McCarthy’s plans.
