The U23 European Championship is fast approaching. In less than three weeks, the starting signal will be given with the official opening ceremony (7 August, 7 p.m.). The Diving Ducks are prepared for the 14 games that will take place in Wiener Neustadt. “We have completely converted the light to LED. In view of the electricity prices, it is important to be efficient,” Ducks official Martin Zoufal knows: “The first 150 stadium seats have been installed, you no longer have to sit on bare concrete.” A VIP area will also be created at Ducksfield for the duration of the European Championship.
Baseball Austria and the Diving Ducks attach particular importance to the moving images that go out into the wide world from the outskirts of the city. Five cameras will capture the action, hopefully also a strong performance by the Austrians. In the preliminary round, the red-white-red aces meet the Netherlands (8 August, 7.30 p.m.), Great Britain (9 August, 7.30 p.m.) and the Czech Republic (10 August, 7.30 p.m.). The top two qualify for the semifinals.
Home game for seven Diving Ducks
There are seven Wiener Neustadt players in the Austrian squad (which will be reduced from 23 to 20 players): Jonas and Elias Kreska, Alex Kienberger, Eoghan McGarry, Felix Astner, Julian Faulhaber and Alessandro Zoufal are real local heroes at the European Championships.
If you want to cheer for the Austrians live on site, you can get tickets at baseballsoftball.at/de/tickets. The daily rate is five euros. All compulsory school students in Wiener Neustadt have the opportunity to follow the European Baseball Championships with free tickets. In cooperation with the city, the Ducks distributed almost 4,000 free tickets in the last two weeks of school. “We are in the fortunate position that we don’t have to generate the big profit from the tickets,” Zoufal and Co. want to get (young) people in particular excited about baseball with the top international event.
