The Lakers’ Concern: Finding a Backup Center for Anthony Davis

The Lakers did not take long to sign several players, with some great deals in the lot. Enough to enthuse fans, even if one area seems to be of great concern to insiders. And it is Anthony Davis who is directly concerned.

Like many other franchises, like the Suns, the Lakers quickly strengthened their roster when the market opened. 4 new members joined the organization, with shooting and defense: two important areas for Rob Pelinka. It is now necessary to re-sign Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell to achieve the hardest part.

Concern among the Lakers

A good omen for the future, even if a position seems quite dangerous for the Purple and Gold at the moment: that of pivot. As insider Jovan Buha shows, the Lakers have Anthony Davis for post 5… and that’s it. They are therefore obliged to recruit, knowing that they only have at least 2 veteran contracts left to offer.

Lakers roster if they retain Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell:

Reaves/Christie/Lewis

LeBron/Prince/Reddish

Rui/Vando

They clearly need a backup at the pivot position with one of the two contracts at least veteran.

Note that the players mentioned will obviously be able to change position. Rui Hachimura can play center in a small-ball configuration, while Prince or Reddish can switch to fullback in certain situations.

The contribution of a real pivot is non-negotiable. But with a simple contract at least to offer, Pelinka has no room for error to find the rare pearl. Note that Mo Bamba could just come back to help Davis in the racket:

Mo Bamba is interested in staying at the Lakers and could be an option.

If the Lakers want to keep Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell, they especially need a pivot given the current workforce. It is recalled that Anthony Davis does not like this position, forcing the front office to find a solution quickly.
