The NBA Introduces the In-Season Tournament: A New ‘Cup’-Style Event to be Played Throughout the Season

The NBA has revealed what the new tournament that will be played throughout the season will be like, the ‘In-Season Tournament’ that will act as a ‘Cup’, just as the league and Adam Silver had been looking for in recent years. The commissioner himself has already stated that Spain was a mirror for the NBA in which to look for the creation of this championship.

He load managment has gradually taken over the league in the last five years, but the imposition of a minimum of 65 games to qualify for the All-NBA and different awards, added to this new tournament will provide an incentive to alleviate the problem.

How does it work?

The 30 teams will participate divided into six groups (three per conference) with five teams in each group. The distribution of the franchises to make up these groups has been based on last year’s record of each one, remaining as follows:

The composition of the groups of the ‘In-Season Tournament’

The dates for the dispute of this group stage will be Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the month of Novemberstarting on day 3. They will face each group against all in a total of four games (two away and two at home) that they will also count toward the regular season.

The franchises with the best record in each group will advance to the next round. So will the team with the best record from each conference that has not been able to qualify directly, to create a total of eight teams that the trophy will be played through the KO round.

The quarterfinals will determine who will be the four semifinalists who will go on to play the Final Four In Las Vegas.
