Erik ten Hag confirmed, he himself would choose the captain Manchester United in 2023/2024. Harry Maguire is reportedly set to be removed as United captain.
Maguire immediately carried the MU captain’s armband after being brought in from Leicester City in 2019. However, last season Bruno Fernandes played more of that position because Maguire was more often backed up.
The England international center back is now on the list of players to be sold by MU in the market this summer. Maguire will reportedly still lose his armband if he refuses to leave.
Raphael Varane captained Manchester United in the first half of their pre-season match against Leeds United in Oslo, Wednesday (12/7). After the match, Ten Hag answered about the MU captain’s armband.
“No, I’m not going to let the locker room vote,” the MU manager was quoted as saying Manchester Evening News. “That’s up to me.”
Bruno Fernandes is the favorite to become MU’s new captain next season. Meanwhile Casemiro also has leadership skills on the field.
“I love this role, yes, frankly. To be a leader, to take care of, to be like a father, I like to be an example, to come first, I love to play this role. [Ban] the captain is nothing more than a symbol, but the player has a responsibility to talk to the referee, to talk to the players. I like to be an example player,” said Casemiro.
