Prisca Guadalupe White Alcaraz He has five years representing Mexico in the discipline of judo. He was born in London, England, but Kenyan blood also runs through his veins from his father and Mexican blood from his mother. He grew up on the British Isle all his childhood and had to get used to the clash of cultures at home, although he liked Mexico and it was like his second home. for the constant trips he has made to his mother’s country to visit her relatives. She started on the path of judo at the age of eight and she would never have imagined that she would end up representing her mother’s home country.
Until she was 21, Prisca represented England in all the competitions she attended, but disagreements with the management of her sport in that country led her to seek other alternatives, It all stemmed from an injury she had to one of her knees and after her recovery she was no longer considered by the English team for more events in the discipline. These actions left their mark and from that moment on, she looked for a way to be present at the Olympic Games, which had always been her dream. Mexico was his first option and in 2017 he looked for a place within the judo team; the team welcomed her with open arms.
After five years in which he has been able to correspond to the Mexican team with an outstanding participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, a gold medal in the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2023 and a silver medal in the Pan American Championship, Awiti is certain that in Mexico there is more support for sports than in his country of origin, since he never received any help there, not even financially.
“I am very proud that they give recognition to me and to all the athletes from Mexico. I feel that they value sport much more and that fills me with pride and makes me happy as an athlete”, highlighted the judoka for THIS in the middle of the ceremony where all the athletes who participated in the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games received an economic stimulus from the federal government. The ceremony was headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the director of Conade, Ana Gabriela Guevara.

In the Central American Championship, Awiti got a gold medal in the 63 kg category. She beat the Cuban maylin del toro in the final and in the Semifinal he beat the Colombian Cindy Mera. In May of this same year he was present in the Judo World Cup and in said contest he managed to reach the battle for the bronze medalhowever, fell into the hands of Joanne van Lieshout who represented the Netherlands. With this participation she achieved the best result of a Mexican judoka in a World Cup.
Today, her effort has been rewarded and she has the support of her sport’s team because she is the only representative of Mexico in this discipline for the highest-ranking international tournaments and although this creates pressure, she prefers to concentrate. At present, it was ranked 20th in the world ranking and, according to what is established by the international federation, the first 17 places in each category attend the Olympic Gamesso he will have to climb the steps in the next Pan American Games.
The judoka’s perception of support for her sport depends on the administration given to it in Mexico. It is enough to remember the detachment that has been given to water sports and archery due to the mismanagement they have had in recent years. With water sports, athletes have been abandoned due to administrative disputes and in archery it was decided to disaffiliate their federation due to different diversions of resources.
