Jock Landale clinched a place in the NBA during his last season with the Phoenix Suns. The Australian center was sure to come off the bench and helped provide the team with intensity when required. With such a letter of introduction, it was the Rockets who noticed him in free agency and gave him a four-year, $32 million contract. What is the problem? That all that glitters is not gold.
As has been known over the days, the agreement with the 27-year-old interior player is only guaranteed for the first season; that is, from the summer of 2024 he could see himself without a team. Faced with this circumstance, Landale makes it clear that he appreciates the trust of the Texas organization, but he also understands that he has to continue earning his bread.
«I felt that I had made my way when I started to play constantly enough minutes and always produced. If I can get the confidence of a coach with the support of the head official, I absolutely believe that I can play at the level that that contract requires. I also feel that since it’s not guaranteed, I don’t have a chance to ease off the throttle, and I think that’s a really important thing and it fits my personality. I still have to earn it”, he comments in statements to Olgun Uluc from ESPN.

Facing the 2023-24 campaign, Landale will have more or less competition depending on the style of play imposed by Ime Udoka. Alperen Sengun will be the starting center and after him there are other interiors such as Jabari Smith Jr., Jeff Green or Tari Eason (power forward). If the coach always plays with a born ‘five’, it is clear that the Australian is Sengun’s replacement, but if he chooses to go with a small five, then he will already have more problems.
