One of the best pitchers in the Toronto Blue Jays’ rotation had to put his most recent start on hiatus when Kevin Gausman was sidelined from this Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a sore left side.
Reports indicate that Gausman had already felt discomfort in that same part of his body during his last outing before the break for the Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game. It was expected that he would be ready to take his next shot at the rotation, but before the game he warned the coaching staff that he was still aching.
The pitcher will be carried day by day.
Per #BlueJaysKevin Gausman was scratched from today’s start with left side discomfort. An MRI “showed no concerns” per the club and Gausman is described as day-to-day.
Chris Bassitt starts instead.

With the respective moves among the starters, Chris Bassitt took his place and Gausman could start next Tuesday in the Padres’ visit to Toronto.
More updates are expected in the coming days, but MRIs revealed no structural damage, so it will likely only take a few days for them to get the pitcher’s pain under control.
Second in MLB strikeouts
Gausman is the pitcher with the second most strikeouts (153) so far this season in the Major Leagues, the leader in that department in the American League. He is 7-5 with a 3.03 batting average, the best for any Blue Jays starter this year; he’s also pitched the most innings (115.2) among his teammates.
