UJZ Mühlviertel Promotes Young Talent Through Special Training Camp

The promotion of young talent is very important to the UJZ Mühlviertel. That’s why the trainers have been organizing a special training camp in the Adalber Stifter youth hostel during the holidays for a number of years. In autumn there will also be another beginner’s course in the schools in the district.

AIGEN SCHLÄGL. 80 children between the ages of six and 14 took part in the training camp this year. Some also come from very far away, for example from St. Valentin or Salzburg. “Last year we already had more than 100 participants. Now we had to split them up into two groups,” says organizer Stefan Praher, describing the rush. A great team of trainers pass on their enthusiasm for the sport of judo, their knowledge and skills, to the kids.

Humble beginnings

“I used to help Pepi Reiter at a training camp on his farm. Then I started my own group,” Praher sees this as an important supplement to school and club training. “At this camp, the kids take a leap forward in their development. The technique and the ability to compete are specially trained. The kids come here voluntarily for this hard training, twice a day for two hours.” In addition to the daily training, other activities such as going to the outdoor pool, table tennis, soccer, hiking or going to the cinema were also on the agenda.

The kids like it: “I really like the games,” says 7-year-old Fabian. The competitions are good for 8-year-old Paul. Rederic, also 7 years old, likes judo, he also wants to learn karate and kung fu. 7-year-old Zoey is good that she can fight.

Lots of work at the beginning

Stefan Praher can already laugh about the arduous start of his training work: “I brought the judo mats up on the roof rack myself in my car. On the way back I accidentally saw a mat in a meadow. Why is there a judo mat lying here in a meadow? The solution to the riddle: I simply lost it when climbing up from the roof rack.”
