Valencia adds two golds to its collection

Alejandra Valencia added to her collection two gold medals in archery at the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

The Olympic medalist whitewashed her compatriot Aída Román 6-0 in the semifinals. And in the final, he dispatched the Colombian Ana María Rendón 7-1 to win the third gold medal in the regional fair, after winning at the beginning of the week in the team event and later rose, in the company of Matías Grande, to top of the podium in the mixed modality, defeating Venezuelans Daniela Leomary Chacón and Ricardo Vázquez in the decisive duel 6-0. In a clash between Mexicans for the women’s individual bronze medal, Ángela Ruiz beat Román 6-5.

In the men’s semifinal, the tricolor Caleb Urbina lost the bronze medal against the Cuban Hugo Franco, winner 6-5, and the Guatemalan Nicholas D’Amour hung the gold by beating the Colombian Jorge Enríquez 6-0.

A historic double was recorded for Mexico in field hockey. The men’s team also won the gold medal in the discipline by defeating the Trinidad and Tobago team 5-1. The day before, the women’s team beat Cuba in the final, 3-2.

Golden pair in chess

Another pair of golds fell in chess, where Liliana Fuentes emerged victorious in rapid games, and Luis Ibarra in speed, a modality in which Gilberto Hernández took silver.

José Marín and Adrián Martínez were first and second on the podium in trampoline gymnastics, ahead of the Venezuelan Sebastián Márquez. In the women’s event, Mariola García finished in eighth and last place in the final, to which Patricia Núñez did not qualify.

In canoeing, Karina Alanís and Maricela Montemayor won the silver medal in the 500-meter double kayak when they crossed the finish line with a time of 1:54.28 minutes, behind the Cubans Daylen Rodríguez and Yurieni Guerra (1:51.08), and ahead of the Colombians Diexe Molina and Tatiana Muñoz (2:01.80).

In the men’s final, José Eguia and Alberto Briones took bronze with a time of 1:38.80 minutes, a test won by Cuba (1:38.03) and seconded by Venezuela (1:38.76).

Alejandra Ramírez triumphs in shotgun

At the El Higuero skeet shooting range, Alejandra Ramírez took the gold medal in the pit shotgun event with 39 points, followed on the podium by Guatemalan Ana Soto (36), while the bronze went to Ingrid Moueza (33), from the Guadalupe Islands.

In the men’s event, Jorge Orozco took the silver with 38 units, behind the Dominican Eduardo Lorenzo (41) and ahead of the Venezuelan Leonel Martínez (32).

In the karate finals, Cinthia de la Rue won bronze in the kata modality by defeating the Salvadoran Helen Galán, while Ahxel Tepal lost to the Guatemalan Fernando Calderón, and finished in fourth place.

In kumite, José Luke was left with the silver medal in 60 kilograms after falling in the final against the Guatemalan Pedropablo de la Roca. Irma Delgado hung bronze by defeating the Dominican Penelope Polanco 8-0 in 50 kilograms.

In speed skating, Mike Paez and Jorge Martínez finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1,000-meter test, in which Colombians Andrés Jiménez and Jorge Escobar made it 1-3. The bronze went to the Venezuelan José Rojas. In the women’s event, also dominated by Colombians and Venezuelans, the Mexican Mariela Casillas finished seventh.

In fencing, the Mexicans Natalia Botello, Regina Pedraza, Julieta Toledo and Diana González won the bronze medal by defeating Venezuela (Luismar Banezca, Katherine Paredes, Shia Rodríguez and Fabianggela Ruido) in the women’s saber team event.

In the Nations Cup, the tournament with which tennis closes, the Mexicans Fernanda Navarro, Jessica Hinojosa and Fernanda Martínez eliminated Venezuela in the semifinals and today they will play for the gold medal against the Colombian team.

In golf, José Rodríguez delivered a card of 70 shots, two below par at the end of the third round at the El Encanto Country Club course, where the Mexican is in second place with 215 (-1), with the day remaining today, behind Costa Rican Paul Chaplet (214 (-2).
