Michael van Gerwen expects to be bothered for the time being by the procedure he recently underwent on his teeth. The three-time world champion will soon receive braces and will require more frequent surgery.
Van Gerwen recently had to miss the World Cup of Darts due to a first dental procedure. On his return in Trier, Germany, he lost to Raymond van Barneveld on Saturday.
“With such a busy schedule, it is always difficult to find a suitable time for such operations, especially if they require a lot of recovery time. I will not look or sound the same in the near future,” Van Gerwen writes on Twitter on Monday.
“I’m getting braces and will need more surgery in the future. I hope it won’t affect my upcoming performance, but I’m still recovering from the first surgery. Hopefully everyone understands that.”
The 34-year-old Van Gerwen will participate in the Poland Darts Masters in Warsaw at the end of this week. The World Matchplay is the next tournament for the current number three in the world at the end of next week.
Van Gerwen was crowned world darts champion in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Last winter he missed out on a fourth title by losing to Michael Smith in the World Cup final.
