VAR Controversy Mars Spain’s Loss to England in European Championship Semi-Finals

At the start of the second half, after six minutes played, the Spanish got a goal back, but VAR was involved and the goal was disallowed due to the position of the back.

Spain had a chance to draw a tie at the end of the compensation time when, after watching the video replay, the head referee awarded a penalty kick to England’s goal, but the “pendulum” was not realized by the Spanish captain Abel Ruiz.

England’s footballers ended the European Championship without conceding a goal, playing a total of six “dry” matches.

Before that, in the semi-finals, England beat Israel 3-0, while Spain defeated Ukraine 5-1, which includes “Valmiera” midfielder Ivan Želizko.

All four semi-finalists had already secured a place in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after winning the quarter-finals.
