Victor Wembanyama Withdraws from NBA Summer League to Prepare for Upcoming Season with San Antonio Spurs

It’s no surprise, but it’s now official. Victor Wembanyama will not participate in the end of the NBA Summer League, which is currently being held in the United States. His new San Antonio team made this choice in order to preserve his new recruit for the coming season.

Several American media claimed on Monday, July 11, that Spurs have decided to stick with their original plan to spare the 19-year-old (2.24 m), who comes out of a long season with his former club Boulogne-Levallois. The Frenchman himself had admitted some time before that he didn’t expect to play more than twice as part of this Summer League. The young basketball player, however, has already been able to taste the American courts, after a shy first match against Charlotte on Friday July 7 and a brilliant second against Portland (27 points, 12 rebounds) Sunday July 9.

After this last game, he said he was looking forward to taking a vacation and to prepare as well as possible for the start of the NBA regular season, which begins in October. “Wemby” will also not participate in the World Cup-2023 (August 25-September 10) with the France team, in order to focus on his first season with Spurs.
