Wesley Fofana operated on the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee

The rumor had been circulating since the beginning of the afternoon, the news was made official on Tuesday by Chelsea. Absent from the pre-season squad in the United States, French international defender Wesley Fofana underwent reconstruction surgery of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee on Tuesday. The native of Marseille begins today a long phase of convalescence.

This is the second very serious injury of the young 22-year-old defender in his career: Wesley Fofana had missed the start of the 2021-2022 season, with Leicester, due to a fracture of the fibula of the left leg, with dislocation of the ankle and tearing of the ligaments. The Ex-Stéphanois had also missed several matches because of knee pain. He was notably released through injury against AC Milan in the Champions League, hit in the right knee, after a duel with Rafael Leão and poor support.

It’s a huge blow for the French international defender, one year from the Euro in Germany, and at the dawn of a pivotal season for Chelsea, in full reconstruction.
