EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- The 41st. World Military Judo Championship of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Ministry of Defense with the participation of more than 350 athletes representing 30 countries from five continents.
The opening ceremony was led by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, ERD, and Brigadier General Delio B. Colón Rosario, ERD, president of the Board of Directors of the Sports Circle of the Armed Forces and the National Police ( Cidefapon), in a striking event held in the volleyball pavilion of the “Juan Pablo Duarte” Olympic Center and which will last until July 31.
According to a statement this Thursday, the head of MIDE, when delivering the main speech, said that it was a historic and exciting moment to receive “so many committed and brave athletes from all over the world competing in our lands” in the country.
“This event represents much more than a sports competition, it is a sign of respect and unity among the nations that make up CISM. Our country welcomes all of you with open arms, not only to celebrate the talent and dedication in judo, but also to strengthen the ties that unite our armed forces in the spirit of peace and mutual understanding”, he expressed.
He also highlighted that “in the American continent and with CISM, to all the members of the Círculo Deportivo, for their tireless work and dedication, which has been fundamental in making this event a reality, unprecedented in our land, an achievement that It will go down in our nation’s sports history.”
The competitions are carried out with the aim of promoting friendship, understanding and coexistence between nations through sport, to build bridges that bring closer and strengthen ties between different countries. The tournament is considered a space to learn and grow as a team together, showing the world that peace is achieved through respect and mutual understanding.
Also participating in the ceremony were the Vice Ministers of Defense, Major General Julio Ernesto Florián Pérez, for Military Affairs; Vice Admiral Ramón G. Betances Hernández, for Naval and Coastal Affairs, and Pilot Major General Leonel A. Muñoz Noboa, for air and space affairs.
Directors of the CISM International Military Sports Council also attended, including Army Commander General Carlos A. Fernández Onofre and numerous commissions from the departments that make up the Ministry of Defense, among other personalities.
