Austrian Tennis Player Julia Grabher Withdraws from US Open Due to Injury

Vorarlberg native Julia Grabher cannot compete in her first-round match at the US Tennis Open in New York on (today) Monday. “Unfortunately, my physical condition doesn’t allow it at the moment,” said the 27-year-old on Facebook. “I’ve injured my wrist during training over the last few days. We’ve tried everything to get fit, but the pain is too great.” She is now going back to Austria to have everything clarified.

Grabher would have played China’s Wang Xiyu, whom she had beaten 6-3, 6-4 in Cleveland a week earlier. It’s a setback for Austria’s number one after she climbed up to 54th place in the world rankings in her best season so far this year. She would have made her debut in Flushing Meadows against Wang, but now she has to wait at least another year for that.
