Belgian Archer Dominates French Field Archery Championship, Despite Ineligibility for Podium

In early August, members of the Compagnie des archers de la Thur took part in the French field archery championship in Lans-en-Vercors.

It was a dream weekend for Pierre Lefèvre, who dominated the Sunday course with 389 points. This allows him to rise to first place in the competition in the senior 2 men category in the compound bow discipline.

But, because there is a “but”, being of Belgian nationality, he cannot claim a podium in the French championship, and it is knowingly that he had decided to participate anyway, just like Maximiliano, another archer in his category, who placed 3rd.

The organizers then called five archers to present themselves at the foot of the podium. Pierre and Maximiliano gave way to two French archers, but were honored as best they could.

A gift from the French champion

Finally, a magnificent gesture from Sébastien Lienard, French champion, who presented Pierre with the pin he had received with his gold medal.

Thierry Werderer and Thomas Vogel regained a few places on Sunday to finish 5th and 13th respectively.
