Blue Jays Take Victory with Belt’s Solo Homer and Strong Pitching

Belt hit his solo homer in the third, where Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho added RBIs via a double and a single, respectively.

Belt also provided a one-point single.

George Springer hit four singles.

The Blue Jays have won their second straight game against the Red Sox, who have won only once in seven games.

The game ended on a double play: Connor Wong hit an arrow that Kevin Kiermaier caught before delivering to second base, in time to pull out Reese McGuire.

“We all missed that game,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of the last play. Everyone thought the ball was going to hit the wall. It was a bad baseball game.”

“It certainly wasn’t easy, and a bit stressful, but in the end you had our best players against their best players,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. Kiermaier made a good game.

It was the Blue Jays’ eighth victory in their last 13 meetings.

“I would say there was a lot of energy after that game,” Belt said of the game’s ending. It was very necessary to obtain this respite and that things go on our side.

The Toronto club occupies the last place available for the playoffs of the American.

The Sox’ Rafael Devers hit his 26th homer, tying the score 3-3 in the fourth.

A Belt single with the bases loaded gave the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead in the sixth against Brennan Bernardino (1-1).

Jose Berríos (9-7) allowed three runs and six hits in five and two-thirds innings, striking out six batters.

Vladimir Guerrero finished the game zero in five.

Red Sox Alex Verdugo was dropped from the starting lineup about two hours before the start of the game. No explanation was given for the decision.

“It’s a manager’s decision,” Verdugo said. We’ll stick to that. I want to be on the pitch every day. It was difficult to be a spectator.
