While the NBA honors its legends, the WNBA writes its own! Last night, Breanna Stewart broke a women’s league record by scoring 42 points in New York Liberty’s victory over the Indiana Dream. We look back on this historic performance!
Breanna Stewart’s first season on the New York side is decidedly impressive. After breaking a franchise record in his second game with the Liberty last May, she became the first player in history to make three 40-point games in the space of a season.
It must be said that last night, Stewart was simply unstoppable. With 30 points at… halftime, we quickly understood that she was not there to string pearls, preferring to string baskets. 3-point shot, cut under the basket, game at the post, in transition, … the best player in the world has shown she can score from anywhere on the pitch.

The winger did not even need to force his shots to register his 42 pawns, since she finished the game with 15/23 to shoot (including 5/10 from afar), i.e. more than 65% successe. She did not forget to share the swelling with her partners by delivering 6 caviars. And since she is ultra-versatile, she added 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals just to be sure that the stats sheet was blacked out.
With this historic performance, Breanna Stewart helped the Liberty break their regular-season winning record with 24 wins. While there are still 10 regular season games to play, the New Yorkers occupy first place in the Eastern Conference. As such, they will face the Las Vegas Aces tomorrow night in the Commissioner’s Cup. A clash that is likely to spark between the two best teams in the league!
