The participation of the Colombian National Team in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which takes place in New Zealand and Australia, is acquiring historic dimensions, after the team won Group H and entered a round of 16 phase for the second time end of the tournament.
The soccer players of the national team, due to their current performance in the World Cup, they have earned the affection and recognition of Colombians who see in them a kind of ‘revenge’ after having to accept that the men’s team was left out of Qatar 2022.
However, apart from the recognition, the Colombian players would have already secured a significant income in their accounts that would come from the money prizes that are given in the Women’s World Cup.
Each player should already have secured, at this moment, a prize of 60,000 dollars, that is to say, of little more than COP 240 million at the current exchange rate of the US currency.
That amount is based on the prizes that FIFA seeks to receive from the World Cup participants according to their performance in the sporting event.
FIFA, in fact, last June risked giving an estimate of the prize money that each footballer should receive per round in the World Cup. That way all 732 women registered with their teams should take home $30,000 each.
The soccer players classified to the second round, in which those of Colombia are, would take USD 60,000. Those members of teams that reach the quarterfinals would win USD 90,000.
From then on the prizes get more attractive with a remuneration of about USD 165,000 for those who occupy fourth place and 180,000 for those who are third.
The runners-up, meanwhile, would each take home USD 195,000 while the world champions, in addition to glory, would see USD 270,000 in their accounts.
That forceful table of FIFA awards was released in June and it is understood as a clear guideline that national football associations must follow.
