As a tribute to Louis Braille, of which it was the native village, the city of Coupvray (Seine-et-Marne) is organizing a major event on Saturday September 2 to put disabled sports in the spotlight: sports shows, conferences as well as a colorful Color Run, the program is loaded.

Marked by the tour of the official Olympic and Paralympic flags with Thierry Rey, the presence of a dozen high-level champions and numerous activities including a large Color Run, the day is intended to be as festive as it is supportive.

Celebrating Paralympic disciplines

The day will start with an opening ceremony with the tour of the official flags, in the presence of Thierry Rey.

On the occasion of the 2023 Olympic Games, we could not fail to create this event to show the other side of the competition, its athletes and its still little-known disciplines, to show that everyone can achieve self-transcendence.

For this event entitled “Coupvray opens the games wide”, the city wants to defend inclusion, sharing and open up to a change in the way we look at disability, visible or not.

A dozen champions present for the event

“We are therefore very proud to have David Smetanine as our sponsor. This quadriplegic competitor is a para-swimming figure with an impressive record: nine times medalist at the Games, with seven world championships and as many in Europe where he won 12 and 13 medals respectively. He alone has 156 French championship titles.

On D-Day, he will notably be accompanied by the French amputee football team, sprinter and blind champion Aladji Ba, para-cycling champion Violaine Harani, but also local champion Morhad Amdouni, seven-time world champion in freestyle football Gautier Fayolle or Antoine Balanant, French archery champion. All come to exchange and make known their disciplines through conferences, but also demonstrations.

Color run and Paralympic disciplines

In the sports villages, associations or through the Children’s Olympiad, everyone can also try out around twenty para-sporting disciplines.

It will also be possible to simply contemplate. Several freestyle football and acrobatic BMX shows will take place during the day. All for free.

We will have everything, in particular the largest Ninja Warrior course in France and the Solidarity Color Run, with many prizes up for grabs. In addition, a warm-up and stretching session provided by a coach.
