Homburg – Darmstadt 3:0
SV Darmstadt 98 experienced a nasty surprise in the first round of the DFB Cup. At the regional league club FC 08 Homburg, the “lilies” lost clearly 0:3 on Monday evening and said goodbye to the competition. “We were hoping that Darmstadt would underestimate us a bit. We defended perfectly, in the end the win is deserved,” said Homburg player Markus Mendler after the game. From the tenth minute Darmstadt was already behind: Homburg winger Hoffmann escaped on the right, and Mendler maneuvered the slightly deflected cross over the line. At the beginning of the second half, Darmstadt wanted to put things right: Stojilkovic, Klarer and Hornby failed to equalize several times within the space of two minutes. The cold shower followed: SVD goalkeeper Schuhen misjudged a free-kick cross from Mendler, Heilig was there – suddenly it was 2-0 (49th). Darmstadt pushed further forward, but was unsuccessful. A counterattack then brought the decision: Schmidt put through to Harres, who made it 3-0 (81st).
