DeMarcus WareAlready a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2023, he is receiving the highest praise from the Dallas Cowboys in the same calendar year.
The owner of the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, made the announcement Wednesday without confirming when the consecration would take place.
DeMarcus Ware, a career defined by excellence
Ware had an outstanding career in NFL throughout 12 seasons between 2005 and 2016.
In all, he earned nine selections at Pro Bowlfour prizes All-Prowas a member of Hall of Fame All-2000 Team and had 138.8 sacks, 657 tackles, and 35 forced fumbles.
Nine of those seasons were spent in Dallaswhere he has a team-high 117 sacks and has produced double-digit sacks seven times in a season, including twice leading the league.
The linebacker became a free agent in 2014 and landed with the Denver Broncoswhere he spent two seasons before announcing his retirement in March 2017.
Jones inducted Ware into the NFL Hall of Fame at the beginning of the month, so it seemed logical that he would give Ware his last honor on Wednesday.
An exclusive fraternity
Jones made the announcement in front of a crowd at Ford Center during a season-opening show for fans who Ware he was actually presenting.
“This is the second time he’s surprised me,” Ware said. “The first time, when you told me I was going to get into the (professional football) Hall of Fame. And secondly, when I got into your Hall of Fame. That means a lot to me. Yeah, Canton was great, but this is my house and my dad (Jones) who I played for. I did enough.”
