Dominican Air Force Wins 11th Consecutive Championship at Sports Games of Armed Forces and National Police

SANTO DOMINGO.- For the eleventh time in a row, the representation of the Dominican Air Force won the champions’ cup of the 52nd version of the Sports Games of the Armed Forces and the National Police, dedicated to Mr. Manuel Grullón Villas, President of the Administrative Council of the Popular Group .

The proclamation of the champions of the joust was made by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, who in turn delivered the Rotating Cup for first place in the athletic event to Major General Carlos Ramón Febrillet Rodríguez, General Commander of the Dominican Republic Air Force, together with General Colón Rosario.

“These games are the manifestation of our unity and commitment to the development of Dominican sports,” said Díaz Morfa.

He added that “dear and appreciated athletes, how proud the country feels for the display of talent that you showed.”

Díaz Morfa congratulated General Colón Rosario for the success achieved in the celebration of the 41st Military Judo World Cup that was held in the country with the participation of 16 nations from four continents.

The protocol act began with the request for the required permit before the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, ERD., who was in charge of the Brigadier General, Delio V. Colón Rosario, ERD., who in turn delivered the keynote speech for the event.

In his words, General Colón Rosario highlighted the quality of the games that closed today and also the success achieved by staging the 41st Military Judo World Cup in the country.

“The Dominican Republic placed itself on the world sports map by celebrating that event and achieving one gold, one silver and five bronze medals,” said the official.

He affirmed that the sports development that the country presents is more than a source of pride, since the military and police always set the pace in the formations of the different national teams.

In this order, the words of the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, engineer Garibaldi Bautista, took place.

During the act, General Colón Rosario presented recognitions to Defense Minister Díaz Morfa and Mr. Grullón Viñas.

Recognitions were also given to the most outstanding athletes and coaches and sports directors at the event.

Major General Febrillet Rodríguez was in charge of the thank you speech and appreciated the work done by the organizers of the fair that ends today.

The Dominican Republic Air Force extended the first place laurels to eleven consecutive years by winning the 52nd version of the Sports Games of the Armed Forces and the National Police.

With a total of 73 gold medals, 67 silver and 48 bronze for a score of 1,209 points, the airmen managed to retain the crown of champions for the eleventh time in the event that brings together the four military institutions of the country.

Although the aerial triumph gave them the supremacy of the joust, it was not as easy as seen in fact, since the representation of the Army of the Dominican Republic planted a fierce fight to strip them of the supremacy of the joust by seizing 58 gold, 72 silver and 48 bronze to bill 1,084 points.

The difference between the two institutions was 125 points, a margin that compared to other versions was closed.

On this occasion, the National Police was left with the third position by dismantling 31 gold medals, 25 silver and 56 bronze, thus compiling 623 points.

The Dominican Republic Navy had 28 gold, 29 silver and 40 bronze for 545 accumulated points.

The hegemony of the representatives of San Isidro began in the 2011 version when paratrooper colonel Ricardo de Jesús Céspedes López began the series that has continued to date.

Prior to the aerial triumph, the representation of the Army had had three consecutive versions under the reins of today’s Major General Julio César Hernández Olivero.
