Fifth and final preparation match, fourth defeat for Olympique Lyonnais. Laurent Blanc’s men lost to the Crystal Palace Eagles in London this Saturday (2-0). The Lyonnais coach still rotated his squad a lot against the English, and even had to bring in Rémy Riou in place of Anthony Lopes, touched on contact on the hour mark.
A dominated OL
Dominated overall, the Lyonnais did not manage to raise their level of a tone against the friendly club of the Premier League, since belonging to the galaxy of John Textor. Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola have lit a few fuses, but the Lyon offensives have remained timid.
On the other side, Eberechi Eze was much sharper, multiplying the differences and bringing Palace’s two goals from set pieces (by Schlupp in the 18th minute, and Edouard in the 54th). One week before the start of Ligue 1, OL are definitely struggling to garner confidence.
Blanc quips about his future
“We’ve had a lot of finishing problems for quite some time, recognized Laurent Blanc after the meeting. (…) When you don’t score goals in football, it’s difficult to win.” The Lyon boss has called on his team to “not be discouraged” as they prepare to face Strasbourg next Sunday.
The Lyonnais coach also let slip an enigmatic sentence in front of the OL Play microphones about his future between Rhône and Saône. “The most important thing is to be complete against Strasbourg, if by then there is a coach in Lyon … What do you want me to tell you”, launched the technician in a grin, before detailing OL’s program for the week, which has eight days to put its head in the right place.
