The 34-year-old Croatian announced this via Instagram.

“Unfortunately, there is no good news these days,” he wrote. “I received a setback in my knee that will delay my return to the tour. I will therefore miss the US swing tournaments.” He is deeply disappointed to miss another part of the season and is working hard for better days to come.

Even if Cilic did not specifically mention an end for the US Open and the tournaments in the run-up to the fourth major tournament are also often referred to as US swing, his message also seems to imply an end for Flushing Meadows.

Cilic had knee surgery earlier this year and made his comeback in Umag in July, where he lost in Round 1. He slipped to 98th place in the ATP ranking – after playing in the top 15 again in 2022 after a smaller low.

In 2018, Cilic had reached his highest world ranking so far with third place. He celebrated his greatest success in 2014 by winning the US Open.
