A new Student-Athlete joins Luiss Basket for the next Serie A2 season, starting in a week. Francesco Villa joins the AS LUISS team and complete the roster regarding the team’s control room. He brings realization skills and execution speed as a dowry, thus offering a valid alternative in the role of change play.
Born in Milan on 29 May 1997, he is making his absolute debut in this category. He begins his career in Salerno in 2018-2019 and then moves on to Tuscany, in Empoli, in the following one. It is in Puglia where he establishes himself as a reliable player for Serie B thanks to two years with Molfetta and Taranto played at a high level.
“I am very happy to have been chosen to be part of this unique project in Italy – said Villa during his first hours as a new signing of AS LUISS – I could not pass up the opportunity to continue my studies at a university so prestigious and in the meantime face the second national basketball championship. I can’t wait to get to know my new team mates, even though we faced each other like opponents with many of them. Last year I played in Taranto and I faced this team: you could see that it was a united and cohesive group, we hope to be able to replicate this situation right away”.
Although it is his first experience in Serie A2, Villa is a player that insiders believe is ready for the leap in category and his signing outlines a certain philosophy as regards player choices: the directors have opted for a mix between expert basketball players for the category and rookies at the peak of their careers. The team that is being born thanks to the incessant work of the whole company will do everything to be able to demonstrate that a serious and unique project like the one created by AS LUISS is also compatible in this latitude of basketball.
