Frignani’s Boys: Closing in on Scudetto Glory

by Alessandro Gallo

Call it, if you want, the Scudetto mission. It’s that wonderful idea that Daniele Frignani’s boys have put into their heads who, since the end of January, have begun training to prepare themselves in the best possible way. Tonight we return to the field at Gianni Falchi, at 20.30 and captain Lorenzo Dobboletta and his companions could, in case of success, close the accounts prematurely with the New Black Panthers of Ronchi dei Legionari.

In Friuli Venezia Giulia Fortitudo proved to be a cynical team capable of raising its voice at the right moment.

In game one, the one reserved for the Italian pitchers, a moment of difficulty by Pippo Crepaldi (accomplice to some mistakes by the defence), would have allowed the hosts to take the lead. UnipolSai kept their nerve and, after the draw, took the lead again, 2-1, to then close the accounts with the young Samuele Gamberini, author of a double capable of yielding three points.

And in race two, when the team could have been subjected to the talent of Hector Rodriguez. But here they are, Robel Garcia and Gamberini still ready to hit hard. With the feared pitcher of the New Black Panthers knocked out, here is the group capable of closing the accounts with a 17-0 that does not allow further comments.

And tonight, to close the accounts, the manager Frignani will entrust the ball into the hands of the expert Cristopher Molina. The pitcher, after having suffered an initial acclimatization period, has confirmed that he is a pawn of absolute value, capable of putting any hitter in difficulty. And to close the accounts, while Ronchi dei Legionari used almost all of his pitchers in game two, UnipolSai will still have two cards at his disposal, Federico Robles and Joseph Cuomo. Without forgetting, then, that Alex Bassani and Marc Civit are also ready for use, spared by the pitching-coach, Fabio Betto.

The other matches: Grosseto-Macerata 1-1; Parma-Neptune 2-0; San Marino-Modena 2-0. From this evening there will be a change of field. The series will move to Macerata, San Marino and Parma (where in reality the vice-champions of Europe also played the first two matches due to the unavailability of the Lazio stadium).

The semi-finals will kick off on August 24 and the series, as well as the final, will be best-of-seven. After the match on August 24th there will be one on the 25th, 28th and 29th. Any subsequent matches will be scheduled for August 30th, September 1st and 2nd.

The Italian Baseball Series (i.e. the tricolor final) from 6 September. Then again the field on 7, 10 and 11 September. The last and possible matches are scheduled for 12, 15 and 16 September.
