The “white collar” of the Contini clan betrayed by his passion for the team

He couldn’t resist the desire to celebrate the scudetto won by his Napoli and went out on the balcony of a restaurant to wave the blue flag. Vincenzo La Porta, 60 years old, for a long time on the former list of 100 most wanted dangerous Italians, “white collar” of the powerful Contini clan, at that moment probably did not think that exposing himself in this way could have meant the end of a 11-year-long fugitive for him. years. And so it was. The man, also thanks to a photo that portrays that moment, was tracked down in Corfu and now, after his extradition from Greece, he will have to serve 14 years and 4 months in prison.

On the Web

A ghost for over a decade, La Porta had rebuilt another life in Greece. He had a second family, ran businesses. A fugitive financed with Camorra money and almost entirely spent in Greek territory. Long and “safe”. Until that photo ended up on social media. The man was therefore traced thanks to the web, but also with traditional and technical investigations. The carabinieri recognized him in that image, despite the fact that he had a baseball cap on his head and a blue scarf in his hands. After a long series of investigations and tailings, carried out with the collaboration of the Greek police forces, the military blocked him on the street while he was riding his scooter.

The investigations

The investigations, coordinated by prosecutor Canaia of the Attorney General’s Office at the Naples Court of Appeal, were supported by the International Cooperation Service and the EU-funded @ON Network (ISF4@ON Project). La Porta was convicted in absentia as the head of an organization dedicated to systematic tax evasion, tax fraud and fraud against foreign suppliers. He had managed over the years to grab considerable market shares thanks to massive supplies obtained with essentially non-existent guarantees, provided by property-poor or fictitious companies, which, after being used, were left bankrupt. His contiguity to the Contini clan is proven by various judicial events. In particular, the fugitive’s activity resulted in the laundering of the Contini’s money. Which he also would have done during his fugitive.
