Star Giannis Antetokounmpo remains the property of the Milwaukee Bucks, but he’s watching the organization’s decisions closely and won’t hesitate to move if his chances of winning a second career NBA championship dwindle.
The 28-year-old does not plan to sign a contract extension when he can technically perform on September 22. In fact, the two-time Silver Tour MVP has no intention of pulling out the pen until he sees the Bucks as Larry O’Brien Trophy contenders.

Antetokounmpo will begin the third season of a five-year, $228 million pact this year. The agreement includes a waiver option – for the player – at the end of 2024-2025. Also, the Greek says he wants to take his time to analyze the situation in Milwaukee.
“Next summer will make more sense for both parties. And again, I don’t know, he said in an interview with The New York Times. I couldn’t be the best version of myself not knowing if everyone is on the same page and fighting for the championship by sacrificing family time like I do. If I don’t see that, I won’t sign.”

“At the end of the day, I think all my teammates and the organization know that I want to win a title, added the one who helped the Bucks in their conquest of 2020-2021. If we’re on the same path and they show me that we’re all in this together, I’ll go all out. As long as I feel like we’re trying to rebuild… well, there’ll never be any hard feelings against the Bucks.”
Milwaukee went down in the first round of the 2023 playoffs despite the league’s best regular-season record. This failure led to the dismissal of head coach Mike Budenholzer, replaced by Adrian Griffin, previously an assistant with the Toronto Raptors.
Antetokounmpo has already admitted that he wants to spend his entire career in Wisconsin. Since his debut in 2013, he has received seven invitations to the All-Star Classic.
