Golden State Warriors Acquire Chris Paul: A Game-Changing Move for the Offseason

Los Golden State Warriors caused one of the greatest impacts of the offseason when they pierced the rising star Jordan Poole along with Ryan Rollins and two future selections to the Wizards in exchange for a veteran like Chris Paul.

CP3 and the Warriors have a well-documented rivalry dating back to their Clippers days. It intensified during the years when the Rockets were Golden State’s clearest competition in the Western Conference.

In fact, in the past, Draymond Green recognized that “I don’t like the CP at all”. head coach Steve Kerr said on NBA Today that “we all hated him because we were competing and he was so good”, before adding, “and now he’s our man and we love him.”

The Warriors’ core will have to get used to seeing Paul on their side as the 12-time All-Star continues his quest for an NBA championship with his former enemies.

The point guard showed his support for his new coach in the concentration of the United States national team last weekend in Las Vegas, as their new coach is also the leader of the US national team in the 2023 World Cup.

Next, The Sporting News brings the words and statements of Steve Kerr about what Chris Paul can bring to the Warriors.

What can Chris Paul add to the Warriors? The words of Steve Kerr

Kerr sat down with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg and explained why the addition of Paul will be so important to the Warriors this upcoming season.

“Chris is such an incredible competitor. In my opinion, he is one of the best competitors of all time,” the technician started. “He’s so smart. He controls the games. He’s thinking three steps ahead all the time. He gets any shot he wants in the middle distance”.

“Our team last year needed another way to attack,” Kerr continued. “We got too one dimensional with Steph and direct blocks. We needed another playmaker to give us a different image.”

According to NBA Stats, Curry’s 8.9 pick-and-roll possessions per night was the same number as Jimmy Butler’s, both being the second-highest averages in the playoffs. Steph trailed only Jalen Brunson at 10.8.

“Chris, as we know, is one of the best pick-and-roll players of all time,” affirmed the North American selector. “He’ll know how to control the pace. It’s very important to have players like that, especially in playoff games. And they’re hard to find.”

“We’re excited to add Chris to what we have and we’ll see what we can do next year.”

Paul will give the Warriors another trusted ball handler to take some of the workload off of Curry and Green. He remains one of the best midrange scorers in the NBA and, as Kerr said, He is considered one of the best direct block masters in history.

It may take a while for Curry and Paul to get comfortable and coexist, but there’s no question that the greatest shooter of all time can benefit from playing off the ball alongside a point guard of this caliber.

After hearing Steve Kerr’s enthusiasm about the dynamism that CP3 can bring to Golden State that Paul there should be no doubt that he will find a way to make it work.
