Manchester City could be without Kevin De Bruyne until the end of December. This was stated by Manchester City manager Pep Guadiola speaking on the eve of the match for the European Super Cup in Athens against Sevilla.
“We may need surgery,” Guardiola said of his Belgian player’s hamstring injury. De Bruyne limped off early on in City’s 3-0 Premier League matchday 1 win against Burnley. The 32-year-old Belgian suffered a similar injury in the Champions League final just over two months ago when City beat Inter Milan. “It’s a serious injury – said Guardiola -, and now we have to decide whether there should be surgery or not. I think then the stop will be three or four months”.
City have already lost two of their best players from last season, that of the ‘Treble’, namely Ilkay Gundogan who moved to Barcelona and Riyad Mahrez who moved to Saudi Arabia to Al-Ahli. According to Guardiola, De Bruyne is “irreplaceable” despite the manager having talents such as Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez at his disposal.
“Kevin has specific qualities. Losing him for a long time is really hard for us – Guardiola said -. At the same time we have to look ahead. Kevin’s skills are irreplaceable, but we have players with different talents”.
