According to a note published by The Associated Press, although the denounced posts on social networks could not be verified, the Dominican Republic Attorney General’s Office assured that “there are investigations in this regard.”
The investigation by the local authorities, as well as the one carried out by the Major League Baseball Commissioner’s office, have resulted in the placement of Wander Franco on the restricted list. Reports indicate that, contrary to usual, the Rays will continue to pay his salary even when he is not on the roster.
Franco did not play in the final game of the Rays’ most recent home series on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians.
Statement from the Tampa Bay Rays regarding MLB’s investigation:
We support any steps taken by the league to better understand the situation. Out of respect for all parties involved, we have no further comments at this time.

“The Tampa Bay Rays and Wander Franco have mutually agreed that he will go on the Restricted List and stay away from the club during the next road trip,” the team said in a statement.
The tour includes three games in San Francisco to face the Giants, as well as three more games in Los Angeles where the team will face Shohei Ohtani’s Angels.
