The investigation being carried out by the Attorney General of the Dominican Republic against baseball player Wander Franco would be finding solid evidence linking him to a crime against a minor, such that the Tampa Bay Rays shortstop would not play again in the Major League Baseball (MLB).

According to a report by Héctor Gómez from Z101, a close source would have revealed that, judging by the investigation being carried out by the Dominican authorities, the results directly commit him to the accusations against him.

Reports from previous days mentioned that the same Prosecutor’s Office was already handling a lawsuit against the baseball player for a minor. The exact causes of the complaint, which was filed by a person other than the one in the photos broadcast on social networks, for which Franco was placed on the restricted list, are unknown.

A delegation from the Major League Baseball commissioner’s office would have traveled to Baní, Dominican Republic, to join the investigations and carry out their proceedings in parallel.

Does Wander Franco end his career in MLB?

The Tampa Bay Rays signed Wander Franco to an eleven-year, $182 million contract with a club option for the 2033 season, which would bring the value of the deal up to $205 million. At the time it was signed, the deal was the largest in Rays history, as well as the best ever for any major league player with less than a year of service.

Franco came to be considered the best prospect in the Major Leagues between 2020 and 2021 by various specialized publications such as MLB Pipeline, Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus. He finished third in the voting for the American League Rookie of the Year Award during the 2021 season and this year he was called to the All-Star Game for the first time in Seattle.
