Italian Judoka Veronica Toniolo Takes Second Place at Zagreb Grand Prix

It begins with a prestigious podium for the Italian national judo team, engaged in Zagreb, the fourth and last Grand Prix of the season. An excellent performance came on the Croatian tatami for the twenty-year-old Veronica Toniolo, who obtained the second place in the -57 kg class. The Trieste, exempt from the first round as top seed, won Pool A by virtue of the successes obtained against the Indian Yamini Mourya, the Kosovar Flaka Loxha and the German Seija Ballhaus.

In the semifinal, then, she met the Slovenian Kaja Kajzer, beaten in a delicate match that saw her in the lead right from the start but overloaded for almost a minute by two heavy yellow cards. Fatal for the young blue the Serbian Marica Perisic, who in the last act prevented her from getting on the first step of the podium for the first time in her career in an appointment of the World Judo Tour.
