A match that is repeated for the second World Cup in a row, given that the two teams also met in 2019 (99-72 for the Serbs, on that occasion) and in the two previous European Championships, in 2017 and 2015, always with a success for Serbia.
In recent years, however, the inertia has turned in favor of Italy, which obtained the pass for the Tokyo Olympic Games by imposing itself in Belgrade and gained access to the quarterfinals of the last European Championships with a career high Marco Spissoscored 22 points in front of the NBA regular season MVP, Nikola Jokic. Even in the tests that preceded the trip to the Philippines, Italy beat Serbia 89-88 at the Acropolis Tournament.
Both were placed in group I, with the Dominican Republic undefeated exit from group A in the first phase and with Puerto Rico, who grabbed second place in group B and will be Italy’s second opponent in this round. Also in this case, a challenge already seen in the summer: in the captain’s last match Datom’s Teeth on an Italian parquet, with the success of the blues for 98-65.
