Italy Shines at Archery World Championships 2023, Secures Olympic Pass for Paris 2024

Italy confirms itself as a great protagonist on the Maifeld meadow on the second day of the Archery world championships 2023currently underway in Berlin. After the splendid morning ride of the men’s trio up to the semifinals (which will take place on Friday, with the Olympic pass for Paris 2024 up for grabs), in the early afternoon the blue movement of the recurve achieved another prestigious result thanks to Mauro Nespoli and Tatiana Andreoli.

The Bel Paese has in fact become the protagonist of an exciting journey in the draw try mixed pairs of Olympic archery (specialty present starting from Tokyo 2020 in the five-circle program), by accessing the playoff for bronze always scheduled for Friday 4 August against the formidable Taiwanese duo composed of Lei Chien-Ying and Tang Chih-Chun.

Andreoli and Nespoli, 13th in seeding based on the results of yesterday’s ranking round, debuted with a good victory over Colombia’s Ana Maria Rendon and Jorge Enriquez 5-1 (38-37, 35-35, 38-34). In the round of 16 our standard-bearers were called to a performance of great thickness against the listed Indians n.4 of the seeding Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara, who paid the price in the shoot-off for 17-16 (37-35, 35-36, 37 -39 and 36-34 the partials of the previous sets) leaving the green light to the Italian duo.

Nespoli-Andreoli, after losing the first volley of the quarterfinals 34-38, subsequently managed to significantly narrow down the squad by dominating three consecutive sets (38-35, 38-37, 39-36) and settling the very strong United States by 6-2 di Brady Ellison e Casey Kaufhold. Nothing to do then in the semifinal against the South Korean masters Kim Woojin and Sihyeon Limwho ruled our pair in three volleys for 37-36, 38-35 and 38-33 reaching Germany in the final for the gold medal.

Moving on to the compound division, the possibility of a medal in the Mixed Team vanished for Italy in the quarterfinals after the defeat of Elisa Roner and Federico Pagnoni 150-156 against Luxembourg.
