Another clash on James Harden’s list. “The Beard” said Monday he would not play for the Philadelphia 76ers again as long as Daryl Morey, whom he called a “liar” during a promotional tour of China, remained president of the franchise.
“Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be part of any organization he is a member of,” Harden said at an event hosted by his sponsor, Adidas. The scathing comment comes as the Sixers and the former NBA MVP are in a contractual stalemate.
He wants to leave
The 33-year-old, a 10-time All-Star, reportedly told his team last month he wanted to transfer. He had joined Philadelphia in February 2022 from Brooklyn.
According to the American press, the 76ers have ended talks with Harden about a possible transfer and expect him to appear when training resumes in September. But the player has no intention of going there, according to The Athletic, citing sources close to Harden.
The Sixers hoped Harden’s arrival would help them pursue the NBA title. But the team led by Joel Embiid has been eliminated in the Eastern Conference semi-finals for the past two seasons.
