He’s back on the ATP Tour: Three weeks after his semi-final defeat in Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner will play another tournament next week. The draw in Toronto, Canada, was quite explosive.

Jannik Sinner is seventh at the Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto. That means he gets a bye in the first round. But there could be a special encounter in the second round: If Matteo Berrettini (ATP 40) eliminated French Gregoire Barrere (ATP 59) at the start, he would have to deal with Sinner.
Sinner and Berrettini have never played against each other on the ATP tour. The Roman struggled with injuries for a long time, but celebrated another sense of achievement at Wimbledon when he was able to knock out Alexander Zverev in three sets. Against the later champion Carlos Alcaraz, however, it was over in the round of 16.
Another derby in round 3?
Another Azzurro could wait in Toronto’s third round, namely Lorenzo Sonego. However, the road is rocky for the Turin native: In the first round he meets Andy Murray, then he would probably have to face Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 10 in the world. In any case, Sinner is prepared for his return to the tennis court.
