Almost a year early, Japan moves forward and already announces the top ten athletes selected in judo for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. After having won the beauty of 9 titles (out of 15 available) in the latest edition in Tokyo, the amazing Japanese national team is aiming high also in view of the next five-circle review.
The Japanese Federation has provisionally chosen (the official announcement will come close to the Olympics) Natsumi Tsunoda nei -48 kg, Utah Abe nei -52 kg, Haruka Funakubo nei -57 kg, Sakii Niizoe nei -70 kg and Akira Sone in the +78 kg as regards the female sector. For men, they will fly to Paris instead Hifumi Abe nei -66 kg, Soichi Hashimoto nei -73 kg, Takanori Nagase nei -81 kg, Sanshiro Murao nei -90 kg and Tatsuru Saito in the heavyweights.
Four categories are still hanging in the balance: the -60 kg (ballot between Naohisa Takato and Ryuju Nagayama), the -100 kg (Aaron Wolf or Kentaro Iida), the -63 kg (three possible candidates) and the -78 kg (three suitors). As a result, barring sensational twists related to possible injuries or physical problems, the exclusion of the world No. 1 in the -48 kg Wakana Koga and the phenomenal Joshiro Maruyama in the -66 kg is already certain.
