Jeenathan Williams Signs Contract with Houston Rockets, Aims for Roster Spot

Jeenathan Williams will have his chance with the Houston Rockets. As reported by Kelly Iko of The Athleticthe 24-year-old player has signed a contract with the Texas organization to carry out the training camp prior to the regular season with it.

The Rockets have moved quickly after Portland released the guard on July 28, the last day they could do so to prevent his $1.7 million salary for the 2023-24 season from being guaranteed.

Although Williams will still have to fight for a spot on Houston’s roster, this is undoubtedly the first step toward achieving that goal. Those from Texas still have a two-way contract Unassigned.

Going undrafted in the 2022 draft, Williams spent most of his first professional season with the Salt Lake City Stars, the Jazz’s G League affiliate, averaging 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 29.8 minutes per game.

His good work in the G League helped him get the Blazers to sign him to a contract for several years. With those from Oregon he came to play five games in the final stretch of the regular season to sign 10.6 points, 3 rebounds and assists per night.
