It was a special game for Jonas Omlin. For the first time, the goalkeeper took Borussia onto the field as official captain. And then against his former club. “It was very nice to see my old colleagues again. Omlin would have liked to have been on the pitch a little longer on Saturday. But it was already over for him at half-time. The reason: shoulder problems. In the 19th minute, the keeper reacted brilliantly to a shot by Khazri, but fell unhappily on his shoulder. After a short break in treatment, Omlin initially continued, but he did not return to the field after the break. An unplanned substitution.
“It was a precautionary measure. I didn’t want to risk anything today for the coming weeks,” said the Swiss after the final whistle. Lately he had “had some problems with his shoulder”, explained Borussia’s number one and continued: “Nothing wild, I hope.”
Borussia ended their friendly series with a 2-2 win against Montpellier. Four wins and two draws are in the statistics after a total of six preparatory games. The bottom line is that the team is making progress. The switching game is impressive. As a team you appear hungrier and more compact. Borussia is becoming more flexible, which is also reflected in the system tests with a back four and a row of three.
“We showed good games in preparation. We’re taking the momentum with us,” Omlin looked ahead and was happy: “There’s a very good, positive mood in the team. Everyone wants to pull together. We can start the season with a lot of confidence .”
Borussia will lead Omlin into the new season as captain. He has been Lars Stindl’s official successor since Friday. “I’m extremely proud that the trust was placed in me. That’s not to be taken for granted when you’ve only been there for half a year,” emphasized Omlin. He doesn’t want to change much either. “I am the way I am. With the team council, we have good people on the team who lead the team. Ultimately, it’s about the collective, everyone has to pull together.”
