Karl-Anthony Towns leads Dominican Republic to victory over Canada in friendly match

World Cup – Faced with a Canadian selection which largely rotated its workforce after the break, the Dominicans won 94-88 in a friendly in Granada (Spain) under the impetus of Karl-Anthony Towns.

Winners of the reigning Spanish world champions after extra time the day before, the Canadians eased off a bit on Friday, and it was the Dominican Republic who took advantage of it! This recorded the return of Karl-Anthony Towns after ten years of absence. The interior of Wolves therefore celebrated with a victory (94-88) and a full game punctuated by 20 points, 6 rebounds but also 7 lost balls.

While the two teams were tied after three quarters (66-66), it was first LJ Figueroa (20 points) who showed the way by scoring three times. KAT brought his stone to the building in the final even if it was Jean Montero who delivered his team at the very end of the game with a 3-point (with the board) and a 2+1 to secure the victory.

For their part, Canadian leaders RJ Barrett and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were limited to 13 minutes. Few lessons can therefore be learned from this opposition except that the Dominicans have built up confidence around their leader, who was making his return after ten years of absence.

As a reminder, the Dominican Republic will face Angola, Italy and the Philippines in group A. Canada will be opposed to France, Lebanon and Latvia in group H.
