Luis Arráez Poised to Make History as MLB’s First Back-to-Back Batting Crown Winner

Everything indicates that Luis Arráez will have no major problems becoming the first player in the history of the Major Leagues to win a batting crown in consecutive years, in addition to doing so in the two leagues that the MLB contemplates.

With a .367 overall average, Luis Arráez hasn’t lost the major league batting lead since the opening days of the season, even taking into account the 14 points he’s lost since Aug. 1 when he started the month at .381.

Although August has not been the most productive for the Marlins hitter, having an average of .260 – the lowest among the five months of action – Arráez still leads Freddie Freeman by 28 points and Ronald Acuña by 30. Jr.; their closest rivals in the National League.

This demonstration of perseverance with the wood was demonstrated on Sunday afternoon, having another game with two or more hits in what meant the victory of the Marlins, with a score of 8-7 at loanDepot Park, where more of 35 thousand fans and added more than one hundred thousand souls during the weekend.

Both Freeman and Acuña Jr. have been in the shadow of Arráez for a good part of this season, even the three are firm candidates for that fight for the Old Circuit MVP award along with Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves starter.

A better version of Arráez

Last season, Luis Arráez was one of the most consistent hitters in the Majors; to the point of never lowering his average of .300 points; however, this year the Venezuelan shows better conditions inside the batter’s box in 113 games of action.

In his first 113 games of 2022, Arráez came to accumulate an average of .318, a product of 136 hits, in addition to an OPS of .809; instead, in the same number of games for this 2023, the native of San Felipe bats for a .367/162H/.878 OPS, making clear those adjustments that make him a more mature bat in the Majors.
